Home town: Whitby, Canada Year formed: (1999) 2003
Genre(s)/styles: Progressive Metal, Hardcore, Mathcore, Punk
Record label(s): Underground Operations / Vagrant
Signature sound: Teh Sweepz! Their story:
Protest The Hero started out as a punk band with some technical tendencies incorporated with their music. In 2003 their EP A Calculated Use of Sound stapled them as a political punk band. Eventually they grew out of this stage in music and moved on to a different sound. This was expressed in their full-length album Kezia (2005), which was driven more by concept style writing, and had an evolved sense character. By then the music had made more of a leap into metal, yet it shared poppy vocal parts and powerful lyrics. The band signed with Vagrant to distribute Kezia worldwide, the album hit the U.S. in January 2006 and was well received. PTH's popularity has been building rapidly due to constant touring and apperances on MTV Canada, because of this their music has started to have a wider range of appeal and is building fan bases from people who don't even like the genre they've been entitled with. The next full-length album Fortress was due to release November 12 2007, unfortunatley it was pushed back by the band until January 29, 2008. This album set the technical sound over the edge, clumping the music into the progressive metal genre. With a powerful sound, well written material, and complete accuracy during live shows Protest the Hero sums up to be one hell of a band. Current lineup: Rody Walker, Tim Millar (guitar, live backup vocals), Luke Hoskin (lead guitar, live backup vocals, piano), Morgan "Moe" Carlson (drums) and Arif Mirabdolbaghi (bass guitar, lyricist, live backup screaming/clean vocals).
